Anyway, Uncle, I agree on the CK film, but it is still a beautiful story about a haunted man.
As for Vertigo: The BFI vote lasts for 10 years. If you were to become a filmmaker yourself you could vote in 2022 for your favourite! Wouldn't that be fun???What would it be?
Well, I still can,t stand CK: as I can,t stand BIG_EGO people- I really can,t-
Are u asking ME which is MY best film?????- Seriously?-
There,s a film, made about a novel.... with the loveliest of all creatures
.... But I can,t remember the name- BY the way: YOUR fav film is compared with MY fav film... It is call (yours) the "..." of Maffia films-

Yes, I had to ask!!!
But seriously, I know it's your favourite, it has all you state above, but from a technical point it has some faults. I laugh out loud every time I see those transparent horses and buggies on the Twelve Oaks driveway, and I sure the makers didn't want me to laugh...
Never heard my fav called that
I just love that now matter how much you love your family and you do things with good intentions, power will ultimately corrupt you and alienate you from everyone, including from yourself.Moon

AHA- you made a comment that I HAVE to respond- I mean: CARLOS is going to respond, YOU: MOON_!!!!- ok?-
Let,s see:
So... that scene makes u laugh?: see it again: When the carriages with the O,Hara girls arrives to Twelve Oaks: The camera is in the other side of the carriage, the girls leaves the carriage, then the camera follows them, going INTO the house, and follows Scarlett till the front of the curved-stairs- Now: In 1939, cameras were as big as a car: In that special scene, THOSE big cameras , in only ONE shot, without any cut, follows the characters from outside the house to the Main Hall: That scene is amazing!!: No computer tricks, no modern small cameras, and still that shot is perfect: u can,t see ANY camera "movements" or shakings.. the "timming" is perfect & natural- Believe me: THAT SHOT was NEW for 1939 standars- So..AFTER u laughed with the carriages going to Twelve Oaks, stop laughing and TRY to concentrate in that shot: we are acostumbed, now, to see those kind of scenes, and many more- BUT.. the film was made in 1939: 73 years ago- Another shot: Scarlett among the wonded soldiers looking for Dr Meade: it was made with a construction crane: they put the BIG camera in the crane, and they shot it only ONCE, one shot: and then that broken flag flying with the wind: the symbol of the South loosing the war .Is just incredible: In GWTW Almost 60 per cent of the shots were taken OUTSIDE, not in Studios. Remember the "prayer" scene at Tara, at the begining?: it was filmed with REAL candles lights- Those shots were NEVER repeated until 20 years later, as everything was made ( in the 30,s, 40,s and part of the 50,s) IN the Studios- Another: when Scarlett told: "I will never be hungry again..." THAT scene was filmed at 3.30 am ( YES, 3.30 AM) in the San Fernando Valley: the light, sky, wind etc were REAL- It was done OUTSIDE...with natural lights-
I have many more scenes to explain to you WHY GWTW is still fresh, modern, a timeless film- A one-of-a-kind-film. Even Coppola says: "without GWTW I could never have been able to do "The Godfather"-
TRY to see those scenes, try to see how innovative it was- Try to see the Production values never before seen- And stop seeing it with a 2012 kind of view-
Then.... you can laugh again-
But never let me know that u are laughing because of GWTW faults: it,s like laughing at my LOVING ones faults-

Moon: by the way: How much do u know about fashions & cars in 1945-1953 ?: do u know how innacurate is "The Godfather" in that matter ?- And those dialogues between Pacino & Keaton?, to name just a few faults..: Every time I see it I have to remember that EVERY film has it,s faults- But I respect other,s feelings: I would never laughed at somebody,s fav film-
And you, of all persons, knows WHAT GWTW means to me-
I,m really badly surprised at your comment- I didn,t deserved it-

Re: Vertigo voted best film
I'm really sorry.
Dear Carlos, I didn't mean to insult you, I know how much GWTW means to you.
As I said before a film is our favourite because we respond to it, it draws us in and we are emotionally and intellectualy satisfied. The BFI uses different standards and therefore my fav will never be no 1. I know it falls short, as do so many other films. But that doesn't mean they are no good. Your fav will also never be no 1, even though it has revolutionary shots in it and it has a great story. Just because the BFI looks at other things.
As you know from our dissucion I really love GWTW, but I just find it remarkable that in the restored version the horses are still transparent. It's endearing because it is such a rich film to watch and that scene is such a contrast with the other scenes. My reaction to that particular scene has nothing to do with insulting or rejecting you.
And yes, I know The Godfather is far from perfect, but it's the psychology that attracks me and Al Pacino reminds me of my father, as long as it looks the part I don't care much about the rest. My friends and family don't care for it, they critizise it as you do and that's fine, we can't all like the same things.
Again, please accept my apologies, I meant no harm.

Re: Vertigo voted best film
Moon:
By the way: you maybe will be surprised to know that between 1978-1998 the AFI votes GWTW the best film of them all-People like Scorsesse consider GWTW the BEST Classic Film- (remember that when I first saw GWTW I didn,t knew ANYTHING about how a great hit it was, or critics comments, or the Stars-I only FELT, "virgin", GWTW at 14 years old).
I also know that GWTW will never be in first place, but among the ten best films of all time: I know the "inteligenza" and their way of thinking- I really don,t care- I have MINE, and I respect it-
I was NOT against GWTW not beeing in first place, not at all: only that each time BFI & AFI votes, they voted different films or they changed places- It was very "funny" ( BFI & AFI votings to say the least): After 9-11 USA people pleaded to see GWTW in Movie Theatres again: because they NEEDS that "survival message". It was shown almost for an year: One more reason , for me, to love this film- It HELPS people- During WW 2, in London, among bombs GWTW was in 2 movie theatres ALL DURING THE WAR (5 years), giving people strengh !!- Maybe IT saved lives !!!!!-
GWTW is MORE innovative that CK, for example (done 2 years before CK) it has innovative shots (NEVER done before) LATER used in CK: (camera position, movements, shadows, close ups of only a part of the face), but.. of course, it is the HIT of the Century: The "intelectuals" in gral, rejects great hits: like a "best-seller"- I don,t care a thing about it- Public, critics & people love it: it,s the most loved of all films (when I made that 1999 exhibition here in a Movie Theatre I was surprised about some of public,s attitudes. I can write a book about it)- Why?: it still touch many hearts- THAT is the most important thing- Many people (the "Inteligenza") don,t like Beethoven, or Chopin.. as beeing SOOOO romantic: but they are Masters in Classical Music- HAHA... It seems that, like Goverments, the "inteligenza" NEVER heard people!!-
About you beeing amazed that in GWTW restoration they didn,t do anything to correct it,s faults: I have the 4 DVD GWTW de luxe edition: during one hour ( an "extra" documental) they ( the Restoration-Department) gave examples (many) of things they founded as faults- BUT they decided to respect the Producer & Directors- They leave, it, exactly as it was done in 1939, as people love it exactly with those faults ( AS I DO: it,s a "human-film", with errors, like humans), WHY change them?- They respect it as one can respect a work of Art: many Fine Arts objects, music, buildings.. considered " Human PatrimonY" have their faults: The "Tower of Pisa" for example: badly done: They, with new technics, can "put" her in her correct place: Of course they are inteligent enough not to do it: even if the Tower is in danger of colapsing- It,s the same than "transporting Venezia to a safter place" !!!!- Works of Art must be respected AS they are-
During one scene, when Scarlett & Rhett are with Bonnie walking in a street saluting people, something happened: In the first shot, the wind ( as it was shot NOT in a Studio, but in a real street) suddenly made Scarlett,s hat to move & it was almost flown off her head: Vivien took it, very quick.. and the shot continues without a cut- Later she was very surprised that the director never said: "CUT"!! (she was expecting that, as it was a "fault" in 1939 terms)- But he didn,t, because that hat-blowing gaves the whole scene a "natural" feeling- It remains in the film-
Another: When Scarlett runs off the Hospital among the granades, in Atlanta, she (Vivien Leigh) was almost killed by a carriage- This is true: she never uses a "double"- She ( Vivien-the STAR in the film) was saved because of her wide skirts: the horse.. running directly to her suddenly stopped, cause the movement of the dress- And Vivien stood there like an iceberg: so affraid she couldn,t move- The director collapsed-
Another: during the "burning of Atlanta": it was done in only ONE shot: the horse.. suddenly stops in the middle of the fire, in the middle of the fire falling from the buildings ( REAL buildings, not computers here: they burned many old film sets constructed like buildings). The horse was so affraid to continue that he stood still in panic (that scene is REAL.later the actors were "added"): The director & Producer almost had a heart-attack. They never expect THAT_ It WASN,T planned- the "doubles" in the carriage were so desesperate that they did what Rhett is showing doing: he puts a shawl in the horse eyes, so the horse could,t see the fire and continue running out from it- Those doubles were put in the carriage because that scene was the first to be shot WITHOUT knowing which actress would be finally chosen to play Scarlett- (December 10, 1938)
Examples like this I have hundreds- GWTW is VERY innovative-
Between the "inteligenza" (and I,m through with that word) "A Streetcar..." is considered a Masterpiece among Vivien films- NOT GWTW- Again: they compare a Best Seller (GWTW) with a "Williams play"- I always says that GWTW is the people,s fav (read GWTW comments on Youtube), and "A Streetcar.." the fav among the intelectuals- Same as Lady Di is the people,s Queen of England !!!!- Not the REAL Queen-
About what one can feel with a film, a book, a painting, a piece of music: YOU know, better than me, that our inner feelings, our recolections.. our loses, etc, have to do it with that "preference"-
HOW CAN YOU laugh at something so important and loving to me?. Something that SAVES MY LIFE, and u know what I mean: I really can,t understand- How can you write it as a joke ( "every time I saw... I laugh loud") in this Site so everybody can read it and laugh with you?- I sent you enough PM,s to explain my feelings, so you are aware with them -
I,m not asking that YOU HAVE TO LOVE GWTW- Neither Vivien, neither the story... I am asking you to have RESPECT for other people feelings- INNER feelings-
My grandparent,s house (now demolished) is a constant pain to me- So painful that almost every night I dream with it- Yesterday I talked with my aunt, the one that it,s closer with that house as she loves that house exactly as me: I told her that I can imagine my "Paradise" in that house, with my grandparents there, again, and my first love- And she told me: " Can I go there too?"- All my Super 8 mm films I have about that house & my grandparents I made copies on DVD,s- And I gave her a copy- Do you know what THAT means?: As I told my aunt: " I feel so bad because I couldn,t save the house, it was MY Tara... with the difference that Scarlett COULD save Tara, and I couldn,t-"
What hurts me, about your message (and it HURTS ME VERY MUCH) is that phrase: " LAUGH LOUD" (each time u saw the carriages)- "LAUGH LOUD" !!!!!!!!!!- My goodness !!!!!- And that message was written TO ME !!!!!- I don,t mind IF people don,t like GWTW, or Vivien, I RESPECT THAT: but one thing is to " I don,t like" and another "I laugh loud when...and the maker surely didn,t want me to laugh"- To LAUGH about a serious matter, so caring to me, is insulting- ( I laugh loud in GWTW comic scenes !!, but NOT in the serious ones !!)
I wanted you to know that AFTER your comment I began to feel like Hell- As u know, I have problems, serious problems with my depressions, and THE MAIN THING here is that I have to be very careful with that- It,s a good thing to write you this HERE, not in a PM, because YOU wrote that hurting comment HERE- So I want everybody to read this, not just you- And yes, I,m angry- It,s A good thing to show our emotions, isn,t it?-
