Dan, you almost gave me a heart attack there. I thought you were going to say that you hated Only Angels Have Wings. I'm glad you didn't say that, and that you liked it because if you hadn't, I would have had to kill you. ;D

Last night I saw two very good and different films in my VHS player... hehe:
"Touch of Evil"-1958- W: Charlton Heston, Janet Leigh, Orson Welles- Dir: Orson Welles-
We know that Welles never made "light" films, so this is another example: In Mexico, a Mexican cop (Heston) have to proove that Welles (American coop) is NOT a good cop, resolving a crime- Some gang tooks Heston,s wife (Leigh) for revenge (all arranged by Welles) and... WELL, I,m not a spoiler !!: I like it very much- Heston plays a complete different role from his "historical characters" with a passion and force rarely seen on films- Heston is one of those underrated actors: It shouldn,t be: he is great- Janet Leigh is very sexy here, and I love her voice (you have to see HOW she wears her 50,s sweaters to understand me), and Welles... I was amazed how old he seems to be here !!!!- He was in his forties and he really seems to be in his 60,s !!!!- But he made a very good job- Some scenes are VERY rough (BEWARE YOUNGSTERS) and I think the Code, by 1958 was opening his gates"...It,s a 50,s film-noir- Actings, direction & music are TOPS !!-
The other film I saw again is "Giant", 1956, Elizabeth Taylor, Rock Hudson, Mercedes McCambridge, James Dean...Directed by a master: George Stevens- It,s the story of a Texas family since the 20,s to the 50,s- Carol Baker and Dennis Hooper made their first film here: both amazing-
With Stevens we have a wonderful direction, epic scenes, beautiful actings. I want to make a point here: I never cared for James Dean as an actor:But here I have to admit he is just incredible: every gesture has a meaning, and I know that he was a very good friend with Taylor, so maybe that helps- Sadly he was killed in his car during the production , so another actor: Nick Adams had to double some of his talked scenes-
Liz & Rock..both deserved an Oscar: For me the best Taylor,s perfomance: especially when she is "older"- You have to see her change to understand me: she was 23 at the time and in the lasts parts she played a 50 years old women with such a grace and understanding that YOU believe she is 50 !!!!- Hudson also, during all the film he shows how a great actor he was, but when "older" he is just fantastic !!!!!-
Well, TRY to see "Giant"- uncle

I just watched Evelyn Prentice with William Powell and Myrna Loy. So good. For anyone who hasn't seen it, Powell plays a defense lawyer who ends up defending a woman who is charged for murder....however, Loy (as Powell's wife, of course) believes she murdered the victim in the process from to keep him from blackmailing her :o

*spoiler alter* It really had me worried about Myrna Loy (sorry, I hate giving spoilers, but I couldn't help it on this one).

Catching up on my classic films which I really haven't had time for since work (not a good enough excuse, I know, but it's the truth), I recently finished: Julia Misbehaves (1948) with Walter Pidgeon, Greer Garson, Elizabeth Taylor, and Peter Lawford. I also watched Blossoms in the Dust (1941) with, again, Walter Pidgeon and Greer Garson. Both were really good. :)

As Monroe's 50th anniversary of her tragic death comes within a couple weeks or so, I'm catching up on all my Monroe films. Latest films seen are "Some Like it Hot" (very Funny!), Seven Year Itch, and finally The Misfits. Of all the Monroe films I've ever seen, I have to say that the Misfits is my very favorite. Wonderful performance by everyone, including Marilyn! A film worth re-watching! :)

I love both of those films. Greer and Walter are some of my favorites. :)
