The most elegant actresses in your opinion.

Postby Ivonne » Sat Jun 09, 2012 12:42 am

Maybe I am not very good in writing a new post, but I will try !!. haha- So, as I love fashions, and Marie and David gaves me the title: "fashion expert in the site"  , here I am writing a topic you may like it- Again: sorry of my poor English.
Which are the MOST elegant actresses in your opinion?- I know something: To be elegant has to be with HOW you dress, WHICH is your attitude with life and fashions, and to WEAR those fashions with elegance. And one important thing: If you have actresses that have "mark a Style", (I don,t know the exact word, but an example may be Veronica Lake and her hairdo).. you can name them also.-
Sometimes actresses (or classic Stars ) KNOWS how to wear historical fashions in a very natural and elegant way!!-
So... If you wish..you can make your list-
My first is:
-Audrey Hepburn.(the all time ELEGANT-GAMINE !!)
-Ingrid Bergman.(despite her height, a very chic and elegant girl, very classy and simple)
- Jane Wyman.(magnificent in her 50,s dresses)
- Vivien Leigh.( SUPERB in "historical" fashions: GWTW, "That Hamilton woman", "Anna Karenina" etc)
- Grace Kelly.( a "cold" manequinn, a perfect dressed beauty)
- Lauren Bacall.(her style is incredible. Her proudness and elegance is an example)
- Veronica Lake.( the perfect 40,s beauty. Not only her hair, but her ultra-feminity)
-Ava Gardner.( the sexy-one. Perfect body)
- Barbara Stanwyck.(an incredible elegant woman, even in her 80,s!!)
- Gene Tierney.( sublime in "historical" and actual fashions)
- Rita Hayworth.( in the 40,s she has the perfect poise and body to wear night-gowns)
- Susan Hayward.( her hair, how she moves it, how she wear simple clothes with ultra-feminity!!)

I agree with you Reanne, Audrey is the first to come to my mind. She sure marked a style, and her elegance is undeniable. She held on to a very characteristic style which fitted her perfectly, and it helped her creating her famous image as a style icon. Perfect combination between attitude and style!
Ivonne, I agree with your list! You really are our fashion guru here. :D
The one I would add here is Katharine Hepburn because even though her style was not "chic", she was revolutionary and held on to a style which is practically a synonym of her name.

Yes! Audrey Hepburn immediately came into my mind. Also maybe Grace Kelly, and Debbie Reynolds. Agnes Moorehead was also rather elegant on "Bewitched" and elsewhere.

Yes Marie: Miss Moorehead is VERY elegant in "All that Heaven allows" and specially in "Bewitched"- In that TV show she shows how to be elegant and sexy as a mature woman- Lovely to see !!!!-

I agree with you: Vivien has natural poise and elegance- Also a certain "proudness" in her way of walking that makes her neck seems to be like a swan,s nake- beautiful in every way-

Vivien Leigh is the most elegant actress for me too. I think she looked very aristrocratic and so beautiful (like I've mentioned before, sometimes it hurts to look at her because she's so beautiful, not only when she's happy but also and especially when she's hurt). Besides, she's one of the persons that looks great in everything.

Other actresses I think of as very elegant are Susan Hayward (and the way she walked), Olivia de Havilland (her face looks very elegant) & Myrna Loy (elegant in her very own way).
...that when you turned and smiled at me, a Nightingale sang in Berkeley Square.

Sweet Sarah: Carlos told me that in those scenes in GWTW when Tara is almost in ruins, they tried so hard to make Vivien NOT so beautiful: they didn,t use makeup, they used "ravaged" clothes, her hair without any hairdo..BUT..I think that in those scenes Vivien was MORE beautiful than in the rest: cause her natural beauty appears, fresh, without makeup!!- Think in those scenes in Atlanta when "yankees are comming", or when Rhett leaves her in the bridge, or in Tara..when she arrives and she has tears in her face.. or after, when she shoots that yankee deserter..MY GOD !!: a total beauty !!!!- ( or that close up when she told: " yes, we can plant more cotton..!!" when war finished)
