Star of the Month: Barbara Stanwyck

Postby R.C. » Sat May 12, 2012 1:43 pm

It was originally going to be Katharine, but then I realized I didn't really feel like having her as the star of the month for May; I wanted someone different. It took me awhile, but then I finally decided on Barbara.

I've only seen Double Indemnity and TMMM but I'm interested in what Nat and Cheryl would nominate for her five essentials. :) Anyway, you'll have to tell me where I can watch some of these movies!

Only five?! I've seen all but four of Missy's films and I loved them all. This may change, but if I absolutely HAD to pick five:

Double Indemnity
Ball of Fire
Meet John Doe
Stella Dallas
Clash By Night

There are MANY links to Barbara Stanwyck films on the "Stanwyck Fans" forum on this site, under "Classic Hollywood". I can't guarantee they are all still on YouTube, but most ought to be, and I add info there almost weekly. ;) TCM is showing some of her films tomorrow (5/15), too. I listed the times (EST) on the "Stanwyck Fans" forum.

I really wanted to include Clash By Night, but I can't find it on youtube, and so yeah. :( And I definitely agree with Balls of Fire, Meet John Doe, but I wanted to do some different ones. Basically, I just wanted to do a few films that is not really mentioned to much. You've seen all of but four? Wow. Which ones are they?

I haven't seen :

"Flesh and Fantasy" (1943) - an anthology film, with Barbara starring a segment of it.
"Red Salute" (1935)
"The Secret Bride" (1934)
"Mexacali Rose" (1929) - her second starring film

They are pretty rare and not on DVD, so I bombard TCM with requests - hoping one day they'll show them, lol.

Ahhh!!! Yay!!! Missy!!! :D My five essentials would probably be:

The Lady Eve (1941)
Meet John Doe (1940)
The Miracle Woman (1931)
My Reputation (1946)
Titanic (1953)
I lead a Barbara Stanwyck appreciation life.
