TO NATALIE & CHERYL: MORE ABOUT MISSY-

Postby carlos » Thu Apr 26, 2012 7:15 pm

In that book I have, there is a part in her bio that I would love to share with u all: specially with Nat And Cheryl-
" ...she has even played a maternal role in the lives of such unlikely "sons" as William Holden, Kirk Douglas and Robert Wagner. All three were cast early in their careers in Stanwyck pictures, and she fought fiercely for the rights of each, just as she championed Lee Majors during "The Big Valley".
"She was very motherly to me," Lee says. "She went out of her way to make it comfortable for me from the first day on. I had the good fortune of beeing kind of adopted by her when we first started working".
" Much of her off-camera energy is spent helping under-privileged Indian children, and she even appointed herself "den mother" to the astronauts. "I,ve lost more sleep over those boys", she says." When there,s a launching, I get up in the middle of the night and make coffee and take it back to bed, turn on the TV and sit there glued. I don,t rest easy until they were UP. Every one of them. By the time my housekeeper gets up she finds me staggering around the house crowing that I got him off. Those boys ought to adopt me as their capsule den mother"-

Isn,t she LOVELY?-uncle. :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

Thanks for sharing this, Uncle! Missy is a beautiful person. I know about William Holden and "Golden Boy". She really was taking a chance when she insisted that he stay in the film. I guess she never forgot how it felt to be just starting out in films. From other things I read about her, she never took her star status for granted. She was always grateful to be a working actress.

THANK YOU SO MUCH, UNCLE CARLOS!!!!! <3 <3 <3 I love Missy more and more everyday, to be honest.

Note: I read this on Tumblr today ---

Bob Taylor’s got a girl named Barbara, and he likes her:

1 - ‘Cause she’s brave, like the time she had that operation, and didn’t tell him, and he tried to tear the hospital down when he found out(…)

2 - ‘Cause she’s a sissy who won’t hunt and is scared to fly.

3 - ‘Cause she drinks so much coffee, it worries him.

4 - ‘Cause she’s got a sense of humor.

5 - Cause she can play a burlesque queen in U.A.’s “G-String Murders” and still leave no doubt that she’s a lady.

That was apparently from the Silver Screen Magazine, the December 1942 issue.

Just, you know, five more reasons to love Barbara Stanwyck. As if I needed more...
I lead a Barbara Stanwyck appreciation life.
