I don't think there can ever really be a complete Shangri'La on Earth, I think of it as a human substitute for Heaven. But that's just my opinion. :D

I agree Marie! When I saw Shangri La I was thinking how it was like a little earthly heaven. NOt nearly as glorious as HEAVEN but as close as we can get in earth...

Exactly, it's like no matter how wonderful we could make it here, Heaven will be a million times more glorious :P

Oh, I agree Marie. No possible Shangri-La like that ever! Still, I prefer to see Shangri-La as Utopia, more than as Heaven. I'll tell you why.

Heaven is a reward, is the eternal rest you get for being a good person in life. Utopia is not a reward but a goal that always seems to be far, the place we are moving to, not individually, but as humanity. I love that idea. Utopia is my dream, and I see it as something that, let's face it, most likely I won't live to see, but that keeps me moving and moving. There is an Uruguayan writter, really great, called Eduardo Galeano. He has a quote which I love with all my heart. I'll traduce it for you.
"Utopia is in the horizon. I walk two steps, she moves two steps away, and the horizon moves ten steps farther. Then, why is Utopia for? For that, it serves to walk."
That pretty much explains. That's why I think there isn't and most likely never be an absolute Shangri-La, but I'm still going to look for it everywhere.

I saw that film too, and my dream is to find, somewhere, my own Shangri La. Maybe, as in Wizard of Oz I have it in my own life, but I really want to know.
